New design hotel for Hyderabad, India

18 Jun 2009 by Mark Caswell

India's design hotel group The Park Hotels is to open a property in Hyderabad this autumn.

The 285-room hotel is situated on Rajbhavan Road, SomajiGuda, and takes its design inspiration both from Hyderabad’s tradition as a centre of design, and its history for the production of precious stones and distinctive textiles.

The facade of the hotel references jewellery settings and metal working found in the Nizam jewellery collection (one of the most valuable in the world). The company promises that this is not empty design, however. Computer modelling was used to calculate not only the optimal balance between opaque and transparent coverage, but also the adjustment of apertures to maximize natural day-lighting.

The hotel is organized on three sides around The Veranda, which forms the heart of the building. The Veranda is a flexible, sub-dividable outdoor space that serves as an extension of restaurant and lobby spaces. It offers a variety of experiences, including access to the public pool and a private dining court.

A major feature of the hotel is promised to be a “three-dimensional” horizon pool, with a stair tube connecting the hotels night club to The Veranda through the volume of the pool. The hotel is being designed by Skidmore, Owens and Merrill.

The Park Hotels currently has seven properties located in Bangalore, Chennai, Kerala, Kolkata, Navi Mumbai, New Delhi and Visakhapatnam.
