Starwood's W Hotels brand will open its second European property in Barcelona in October this year. Nicknamed “The Sail” due to the shape of the building, the hotel is located on the Nova Bocana (literally the “new entrance”) of the Port of Barcelona, close to La Barceloneta with its beachside restaurants and nightlife, and within walking distance of Las Ramblas and the city’s old town. It will also be the only hotel in Barcelona with direct access to the beach.
The 26-storey building was designed by Barcelona-born architect Ricardo Bofill, and features 473 rooms including 67 suites, as well as the brand’s signature Bliss Spa, a second-floor destination restaurant, a rooftop bar, an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness centre. For events there will be over 2,500sqm of meeting space including “The Great Room” with unobstructed sea views.
Reservations are now open from October 1 onwards, and the hotel is currently running an opening offer of €299 per night for two people, including two welcome cocktails, daily breakfast for two, complimentary appetizer or dessert with dinner at W Barcelona’s signature restaurant, a Bliss Spa gift set, VIP access to the Ignite Group rooftop destination bar, and an upgrade from a Wonderful Room to the next available room type. The offer is valid for stays between October 1, 2009 and February 27, 2010.
W Barcelona will be the second European hotel by the brand, following the opening of W Istanbul last year (see online news April 3, 2008).
