Qantas bolsters European and North American codeshares

16 Jun 2009

Qantas has announced codeshare agreements with oneworld partner airlines Iberia and American Airlines (AA) to provide more services to Europe and North America from Australia.

The agreements, a first between Qantas and Iberia and an extension of a current agreement with American Airlines, adds Spanish capital Madrid and eight American cities to Qantas’ current network.

The Australian national carrier will codeshare with American Airlines on flights to Atlanta, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Detroit, Tampa, Cincinnati, New Orleans and Memphis via AA’s hubs in Dallas and Chicago from June 17.

Qantas will then commence codeshare flights with Iberia to Madrid via Frankfurt and London on July 15. At the same time, Iberia will start codeshare flights from Frankfurt and London to Sydney.

In addition, Qantas Frequent Flyer programme members can earn flyer miles on the new codeshare services.

“These new codeshares, with two of our oneworld alliance partners, will provide Qantas customers with more travel options between Europe, North America and Australia, said Rob Gurney, group executive Qantas Airlines commercial.
