The big picture: SAA's new lounges at Johannesburg airport

11 Jun 2009 by Mark Caswell

SAA will be opening brand new business and first class lounges within the new international departure terminal at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International airport later this year. According to the carrier the Cycad (first class) and Baobab (business class) facilities will represent a “radical shift from the airline’s previous lounges… without moving away from its African roots”.

Cycad customers can expect an African Royalty theme, with dark wood furnishings and touches of gold, and features including private snooze rooms and boardrooms, rainfall showers, a cigar lounge and an “audiovisual entertainment room”.

Meanwhile Baobab customers will enjoy African Contemporary surroundings, with a manned bar, self-service food section, an enclosed smokers lounge, and a rest area including a centrepiece “elongated desk carved by a South African craftsman”.
