10 Jun 2009 by ahmarshah

Accor Hospitality Group is to build an Ibis hotel within the hospitality district of Delhi International Airport's ‘Aerocity’.

The Accor move is part of a joint venture with InterGlobe Hotels. Uttam Davé, president & CEO of InterGlobe Hotels said: “This location is perfect both for building the brand presence of ibis Hotels in India, as well as to serve the vast New Delhi market. We are very pleased with the growth of the ibis network in India, which has kept pace, and indeed exceeded our original development plan."

Construction for the new 315-room ibis New Delhi will begin later this year on the 1.7-acre site, with an estimated INR180Cr (US$37.9 million) investment for the first phase of development.

“The ibis Delhi International Airport like the ibis Hotel Gurgaon and all ibis hotels in India will provide guests with the reassurance of one of the world's largest and most respected economy hotel brands. Quality and consistent accommodation at affordable pricing and guaranteed with a '15-minute satisfaction contract'is exactly what is required in the Indian economy hotel environment,” said Jean-Michel Casse, senior vice-president operations Accor India.

ibis Gurgaon, launched in August last year, is the first ibis hotel in India. Accor is also developing 14 other ibis hotels in cities such as Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Nashik, featuring a total of 2700 rooms. Ibis Pune, the next ibis hotel to be launched in India will open its doors in July 2009, followed by the ibis Mumbai Airport in early 2010, and ibis New Delhi is deemed to be ready in 2011.

According to Delhi International Airport’s website, other hotels brands that have won development rights include Accor, InterGlobe Hotels, Lemon Tree, Bird Group and Hyatt (Saraf Hotels).
