Emirates has added a raft of new options for travellers buying their tickets from its website.
The Dubai-based airline is now allowing customers in 37 of its key markets to choose from a wide range of payment methods hosted by e-payment specialist GlobalCollect, including local credit and debit cards, local bank transfers, real-time bank transfers, cash (Western Union Quick Pay), direct debits, and eWallets (PayPal). Future plans include adding further countries and payment products.
Emirates said online customers can now pay in 14 different currencies and thereby take advantage of more favourable exchange rates and be billed in local currency.
Passengers will also now be able to send payments for their tickets at selected Western Union agent locations, using the Western Union Quick Pay service or via their PayPal accounts. There are also some market-specific options such as Solo and Maestro cards in the UK and Giropay in Germany.
The airline believes the more flexible system will also be useful for customers using a third party to make a payment on their behalf.
