Delta Air Lines has launched two new routes from Salt Lake City in the US and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Tokyo following its merger with Northwest Airlines, which has its largest Asian hub at Tokyo’s Narita Airport.
The Salt Lake City-Tokyo route is non-stop and operates five times weekly out of Delta’s Salt Lake City hub.
Japan was Utah’s seventh biggest export country in 2008, and the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development estimates the new route brings Salt Lake City about US$90 million in revenue and approximately 1,100 jobs.
The Ho Chi Minh City-Tokyo route is operated daily by Boeing B757-200 aircraft with 16 business class and 144 economy class seats, and allows passengers to connect to several US destinations including Los Angeles, Atlanta, Detroit, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco and Honolulu.
