An Air France Airbus A330-200 aircraft has been reported missing over the Atlantic, enroute to Paris from Rio de Janeiro.
The plane is understood to have 228 people onboard, and was due to land in Paris at 1110 local time (0910 GMT). A search and rescue mission is under way close to the island of Fernando de Nornonha, off the northeast coast of Brazil.
Flight AF447 took off from Rio at 1900 local time (220 GMT), and it is understood contact was lost with the aircraft at 0600 GMT.
