Bmi announces Diamond Club system upgrade

1 May 2009 by Mark Caswell

Bmi is to carry out a “system” upgrade to its Diamond Club scheme from May 6-12, ahead of “exciting new developments” to the programme. During this time members will be unable to make award reservations.

The carrier emailed its members with details of the upgrade yesterday (April 30), saying that it will enable Bmi to provide members "with an improved level of customer service”. It adds that there will also be “some exciting new developents to the Diamond Club programme over the next few months”.

During the upgrade members will still be able to access their account information online, but it will not be possible to make any award flight reservations. Flight activities will also only be updated for flights taken before May 5, before being fully updated following the upgrade.

From today (May 1), Bmi has also made changes to first class award flight redemptions with Star Alliance partner carriers, increasing the required miles from x2 miles to x2.5 miles. In addition, first class award flights with Lufthansa will also incur a surcharge of 10,000 destinations miles for each one-way award flight.
