Flybe adds Guernsey service

26 Apr 2009 by Mark Caswell

Regional carrier Flybe is to add a sixth weekday flight from London Gatwick to Guernsey, commencing June 29.

The flight will depart Gatwick at 1550, with the return leg leaving Guernsey at 1715. Flybe says that the new summer service will help it to meet increased seasonal demand.

The carrier currently plies the route using Dash 8-400 aircraft, but says it would rather serve the island with larger 118-seat Embraer 195 jets, something that is not possible until the planned upgrade of Guernsey’s airport runway goes ahead.

The only other carrier offering flights from London to Guernsey is Aurigny Air Services, using ATR 72 aircraft, although other regional UK routes to the island include Alderney, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Exeter, Isle of Man, Jersey, Manchester and Southampton.
