Marriott International is to bring its extended stay Residence Inn offering to Europe, with the first hotel due to open in Munich in 2011.
Residence Inn is Marriott’s second largest brand, with nearly 600 properties in North and Central America and the Caribbean, and the group says it has “invested a significant amount of research into developing a customised Residence Inn product that is appropriate to the European market”.
The 122-unit Residence Inn by Marriott Munich Orleansstrasse will be located in the Haidhausen district of the city, and will be connected to a 225-room Marriott Courtyard hotel. Features at the Residence Inn property will include a kitchenette in each room, and separate areas for relaxing, working, dining and sleeping.
There will be a resident’s bar / lounge serving continental breakfast and a limited dinner service in the evening, and other facilities include wifi internet access, a fitness room and sauna, and “a 24-hour market offering pre-packaged convenience food and take-away for in-room dining”.
Marriott says that it hopes top open 154 Residence Inn properties and 200 additional Courtyard hotels over the next three years.
Last year Intercontinental Hotels Group launched its extended stay offering in Europe, with a 132-suite property in Liverpool (for a full review click here). IHG has since opened a second UK property in Newcastle (see online news April 11).
