Pilots on ANA domestic routes go on strike

15 Apr 2009

The unions of four All Nippon Air (ANA) subsidiary airlines are now staging a one-day strike that will affect mainly domestic operations.

The move is to express dissatisfaction with the management stance in their spring round of talks. The unions involved are Air Nippon Crew’s Association, composed of 473 pilots; Air Nippon Network Pilot Union, composed of 57 pilots; Air Next Crew’s Association, composed of 23 pilots and Air Central Pilots’ Union, composed of 52 pilots.

Air Nippon, Air Nippon Network, Air Next and Air Central did their utmost in negotiations to avoid the strike, however notice was received at 02:45 that it would go ahead. The management of these airlines said they were extending “their sincere apologies to customers for any disruption and inconvenience caused”.

A total of 163 flights, accounting for 18.4 percent of a total of 886 flights operating under the ANA flight code are not taking off. A total of 149 flights will be cancelled, affecting approximately 6,060 passengers and a total of 14 flights will be delayed, affecting about 1,218 passengers.

Customers intending to take ANA domestic flights today are requested check the status of their flights with the ANA Reservations Center's toll-free numbers 0120 029 222 and 0570 029 222, log onto www.ana.co.jp (ANA Skyweb) or contact any ANA office.

International flights will go on as scheduled.
