The Rezidor Hotel Group’s tie-up with fashion house Missoni will soon see the light of day, with properties due to open in Edinburgh and Kuwait in the next few months.
The brand, which Rezidor says will blend “fashion, function, form and service”, will debut in Scotland with Hotel Missoni Edinburgh, a 136-room property located on the corner of George IV Bridge and the Royal Mile.
The new-build hotel is situated on the site of a former 1960’s office block, which had housed the Lothian Regional Council Headquarters. Interiors have been designed by Rosita Missoni, with an overall colour scheme of “stylish black and white, punctuated with brilliant flashes of colour”, and design features include a Hans J Wegner Wishbone Chair and two large mosaic urns, which will become trademark pieces in forthcoming Missoni properties.
Rooms features include espresso machines, complimentary healthy minibar and wifi internet access, and bathrooms with showers featuring a bench seat and rain shower.
Cucina restaurant will be on the first floor of the hotel, offering Italian dishes such as Barolo Castelmagno cheese risotto and roast rabbit served with polenta and radicchio, while Bar Missoni will be located in the lobby area on the ground floor. A fitness centre will be located on the second floor, and there will be three rooms available for meetings, the largest measuring 75sqm, as well as a 100-sqm space for breakouts.
Meanwhile Hotel Missoni Kuwait will join Rezidor’s Radisson SAS offering in Kuwait City this summer. The 169-room hotel will again feature interiors designed by Rosita Missoni, with the main colour scheme being gold, turquoise and beige. Features will include Cucina restaurant (similar to the offering at the Edinburgh property), Choco Cafe, a 1,530-sqm spa and fitness centre with steam rooms, saunas, hammams and an outdoor pool, and six meeting rooms.
The arrival of Hotel Missoni comes as Marriott and Ian Schrager gear up to unveil their own boutique hotel project under the Edition Hotels brand (see online news March 20), and Hilton announces its forthcoming lifestyle offfering Denizen Hotels (see online news March 10).
