Ryanair launches "discretionary charge" competition

12 Mar 2009 by Mark Caswell

Never one to miss a marketing opportunity, Ryanair is offering €1,000 to the passenger who comes up with the best suggestion for the airline’s next “discretionary charge”.

Cashing in on the publicity garnered by Michael O’Leary’s suggestion that the carrier may start to charge for toilet use in-flight, the airline has launched a competition inviting passengers to put forward other potential charges.

The competition is running Europe-wide, and you have until March 30 to forward your most “ingenious, wacky and creative ideas” to [email protected].

Ryanair says it has received “a huge number of ancillary revenue suggestions” since O’Leary’s announcement last week, including “charging for toilet paper  - with O’Leary’s face on it”.

Businesstraveller.com is running its own poll to see which Ryanair fee passengers would most like see removed - to take part click here.
