Clearly reacting to visitor dissatisfaction with the information vacuum that prevailed during last year’s civilian chaos, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has set up www.tourismthailand.org/thailandtourismupdate.
The promise: ensuring tourists get the most out of their stay in the Kingdom with constant news updates.
Special interest and repeat visitors will also receive bulletins designed for their tastes.
Key elements of the fact-rich Web 2.0 site include material from independent news sources and organisations, topical feature articles on the country, travel blogs, RSS feeds and a discussion forum.
More importantly, TAT’s new electronic tool has been designed to deal with breaking news so sorely lacking during the People Power activities in November and December of 2008 that shut down Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang airports and brought the country to a standstill.
The site, TAT officials hope, will contribute to restoring confidence in Thailand.
“Tens of thousands of tourists are here right now having a great holiday, enjoying the sun, smiles and cuisine we are famous for,” said Suraphon Svetasreni, TAT deputy governor for policy and planning. “Please help us get that message out to everyone around the world.”
