Taiwan passport holders wishing to visit the UK for less than six months on business, tourism, education or visiting family will no longer require a visa from March 3, 2009.
But those wishing to stay in the country more than six months, or to live, work, marry or study there on courses over six months, will still have to apply for a visa as before.??
The decision came about, thanks to a recent world-wide review of visa regulations conducted by the UK Borders Agency and strengthening trade and cultural ties between the UK and Taiwan, said David Campbell, the new director of the British Trade and Cultural Office in Taiwan.
Taiwanese arriving in the UK must still satisfy UK authorities at the port of entry that they meet the admission requirements. They must carry with them in their hand luggage relevant supporting documents such as flight tickets, evidence of funding, letters from sponsors or businesses they are visiting or the school they plan to study at.
In 2008, the BTCO received over 28,000 visa applications.
