Lufthansa reopens JFK lounge

25 Jan 2009 by Mark Caswell

Lufthansa’s refurbished lounge at JFK has reopened, with double the capacity of the old facility and a brand new first class area.

Spread over the three floors, the lounge now offers almost 1,500sqm of space, including a first class lounge on the third floor, the first of its kind outside the Lufthansa / Swiss hubs of Frankfurt, Munich and Zurich. This new premium space includes a pre-flight dinner area, and “generously-proportioned showers”.

The Senator lounge is located on the second floor, with seating for 124 passengers, while the ground floor houses the refurbished business-class lounge, with space for 171 guests. Both sections feature a bistro and bar area, lounges with leather easy chairs, and work areas with computer terminals. Access to the Lufthansa lounge in New York is directly behind the security checkpoints at Terminal 1.

Lufthansa says it will open seven lounges in the first three months of 2009, inclduing facilities in Mumbai and Paris.
