Cathay Pacific offers check in on the go

Cathay Pacific’s new mobile phone check-in service is all about giving customers more control over their travel movements and saving their precious time.

The innovation was launched last December, enhancing existing online and mobile conveniences such as the ability to check flight schedules up to a year in advance and the mobile site m.cathaypacific.com, which has facilitated online booking and check in, notiFLY Flight Messaging and aids like the self check-in kiosks at Hongkong airport and other destinations the self-print boarding pass also in Hongkong and 11 other places.

Mobile check in is available for eligible flights from 48 hours up to 90 minutes before departure.

All passengers, regardless of class type, can avail of the service, and they also do not need to be a member of Cathay’s Marco Polo Club and Asia Miles. But they do need a web-enabled mobile handset. Features include ability to check in for one’s self and traveling companions, selecting seats using a seat map and saving the check-in confirmation with a barcode on the mobile devise.

To print or collect the boarding pass, one has to scan the barcode on the check-in confirmation at the Self Check-in Kiosk, proceed to the Self Check-in Bag Drop Counters at the airport or go online and print the boarding pass.

The Hongkong-based carrier joins the list of airlines, including American Airlines (www.aa.com), British Airways (www.ba.com/mobile), Lufthansa (www.mobile.lufthansa.com), Singapore Airlines (www.singaporeair.com), that offer check in through the mobile phone in varying formats.
