Sailing fans flock to Sentosa Cove

Visitors can cash in on the fun and excitement of the ongoing Volvo Ocean Race by joining any of the myriad activities now happening at the Race Village Festival on Sentosa Cove.

Singapore is one of the ports of call of the nine-month race billed as the Formula One of sailing.

Open daily to the public from 1000 to 2200, the Race Village Festival ends  on January 18.

Programme highlights at the Race Village Festival includes the Volvo Grinding challenge, where participants pit their strength against one another by completing the most number of rotations on a winch, which is onboard a sailboat. 

The Volvo Simulator and Volvo Dome give people the virtual experience of being hundred miles out at sea with raging waters and strong winds that are almost real to the touch.

Kayaking sessions with professional instructors are available. There is also the Replica Volvo Open 70s Match Racing - Syndicate Challenge, which involved one-metre radio-controlled yacht models. Race Village visitors can also catch musical performances by artists like Dawn Ho and Jive Talking.

Race Village Festival also offers a series of Sentosa Animal Encounters. Get up close and personal with a selection of feathered and reptilian creatures.  

Meanwhile, the Singapore Scouts Association water safety talks, sea-going workshops is set to conduct water-safety talks and sea-going workshops.

Official Volvo Ocean Race mascot “Victor the Seagull” is available for souvenir photo shoots on specific times and locations in the Race Village.
