Virgin has launched its 25th anniversary celebrations, with a spoof 1980s advertising campaign including Rubik’s Cubes, big hairdos and even bigger mobile phones.
Virgin’s inaugural flight from London Gatwick to Newark took place on June 22 1984, at a time when the UK was in the midst of the miners’ strike, and Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax” (featured in the ad) was riding high in the charts.
The new advert features iconic brands of the 1980s, including Rubik’s Cube, the fast food chain Wimpy, and an Our Price record store, as well as the obligatory 1980’s accessories including braces and huge mobile phones.
