Hilton Hotels has picked Shanghai as the first Asian location for its Waldorf=Astoria collection. The 226-room Waldorf Astoria On The Bund Shanghai will be opening in 2011.
Comprising two buildings, the hotel’s main entrance will be situated at Number Two on the Bund, which was the Shanghai Club in the 1920s. A courtyard will link this structure to a tower behind the Bund on Sichuan Road.
Facilities will include large-scale banqueting facilities that should prove attractive to meetings and conference planners. It will also boast four restaurants, two bars, a patisserie and lobby lounge.
Inspired by the world-renowned Waldorf Astoria in New York, which belongs to the Hilton family, the brand is made up of existing properties that have already made their mark such as the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, Hawaii’s Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa, Saudi Arabia’s Qasr Al Sharq and California’s La Quinta Resort & Club, Rome Cavalieri and the Waldorf Astoria.
However, new-builds such as the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai are very much of the development plan. Other Waldorf Astorias are expected to open the US in Florida, Sarasota, Montreal, Beverly Hills and Philadelphia.
