Bmi’s low-cost subsidiary is cutting five routes from Birmingham to Italy, Portugal, Spain and France for the summer 2009 schedule.
The carrier will drop flights to Rome Fiumicino, Milan Bergamo, Lisbon, Madrid and Bordeaux from Birmingham International airport for the period March 29 to October 24 next year.
A Bmibaby spokesperson said the routes were being suspended “in response to a weakening of consumer demand, which is being impacted upon by the current economic climate and its unpredictability”.
The airline said its key Mediterranean routes from Birmingham are continuing to perform “extremely well”, and that it was committed to flying from Birmingham, with 10,000 flights to or from the airport planned for 2009.
