Hongkong International Airport vows to grow

25 Nov 2008

A global economic meltdown and decreasing passenger numbers and cargo volume have failed to put a damper on Hongkong International Airport’s plans for expansion.

The Airport Authority has insisted that construction of a third terminal and runway will continue to prevent Hongkong from losing its competitive edge in the region. New cargo handling and airline catering facilities are also being considered.

“We are talking about long-term planning, otherwise people will pull out their business (and bring it) to Zhuhai or Shenzhen,” a government source said.
