Thailand enhances meetings security factor

19 Oct 2008

No stranger to disasters, both natural and man-made, Thailand is promoting a new comprehensive security management standard aimed at enhancing the safety of visitors attending local conferences and exhibitions. The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) developed and recently launched this pioneering programme called MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) Security Management System (MSMS).

The standard provides requirements or guidance to industry players and service suppliers on ways to efficiently handle and respond to a number of security-related scenarios. It is especially geared towards hotels and convention and exhibition venues, which may have to deal with untoward incidents in the future. Nautawat Amomvivat, president of TCEB, said the Thailand Industrial Standard Institute was responsible for issuing MSMS accreditation. He said the standard would help raise the confidence level of international event organisers and help companies eradicate flaws in their operations with regards to safety issues.

Thailand’s major meetings and exhbition entities Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre, Queen Sirikit national Convention Centre and IMPACT Exhbition Centre have already incorporated MSMS into their systems.
