Dubai-based hotel
group Jumeirah has announced it will open a “five-star super deluxe” hotel and
serviced-apartment property in Glasgow.
Jumeirah Glasgow Hotel is due to open in 2011, and will be housed within a 25-storey building designed by Ian Simpson Arhitects (also responsible for the forthcoming W Manchester – see online news September 3), located in the city’s International Financial Services District.
There will be 160 guest rooms and suites, as well as 85 Jumeirah Living serviced apartments. Other facilities include an infinity pool, Talise Wellness gym, rooftop cocktail lounge, and “several restaurants and bars”. For business travellers there will also be a 630-seat ballroom, and a club lounge.
The Glasgow hotel is the fifth Jumeirah property either open or under development in Europe. The brand currently has two properties open in London (The Jumeirah Carlton Towers and nearby Jumeirah Lowndes), with a third due to open on the Southbank in 2011 (see online news July 30, 2007). Jumeirah also has a resort and spa project under development in Mallorca.
