Beijing hotels round-up

With China’s capital currently under the world’s microscope, hotel chains are falling over themselves to announce or open new properties in the city.

Hyatt has opened its second hotel in China’s capital, the 237-room Park Hyatt Beijing. The property is located in the city’s Central Business District on Chang’an Avenue, and features a bar and restaurant on the 65th and 66th floors, as well as a spa and 25-metre indoor pool. The Park Hyatt joins the group’s Grand Hyatt Beijing also situated on Chang’an Avenue. Visit hyatt.com.

Swire Hotels has opened its first hotel, the 99-room Opposite House in Beijing. The boutique property is located within The Village at Sanlitun complex (being developed by Swire Properties) in the Chaoyang district of the city, and features a mediterranean restaurant, juice bar, gym, and 22-metre indoor swimming pool. Starwood has announced two new properties for Beijing. The Sheraton Beijing Dongcheng Hotel will feature 470 rooms, and approximately 3,345sqm of meeting space, while The Four Points by Sheraton Beijing, Haidian will comprise 355 rooms and 177 serviced apartments. Visit starwoodhotels.com.

Fairmont is set to open its first property in China before the end of 2008. The 25-storey Fairmont Beijing will be located in the downtown Central Business District, and features 235 rooms, several restaurants and bars, meeting space and a multi-purpose theatre, and a 930sqm spa. Hilton has opened its first Doubletree by Hilton property in Asia. The Doubletree by Hilton Beijing has 547 rooms and is located along the Southwest Second Ring Road in the new Lar Valley International mixed-use business complex. The hotel group has also unveiled a $32 million Executive Tower extension to its Hilton Beijing hotel. The tower has 126 rooms, bringing the total inventory at the property to 503 rooms. Frasers Hospitality has opened its latest serviced apartments, the Fraser Suites CBD, Beijing. Located in the city’s Central Business District, the 23-storey building has 357 studios and one and two-bedroom apartments, as well as an all-day dining restaurant, meeting and function rooms, fitness centre and a children's playground.
