Budget carrier Iceland Express has launched a paid-for in-flight entertainment offering onboard its flights to and from Reyjavik.
The Airplay system consists of a portable video player, pre-loaded with movies, TV shows, music albums and games, and can be hired for ISK1,000 (around £6) per flight.
Airplay is available on all Iceland Express routes leaving Reyjavik, including daily flights to and from London Stansted, as well as the forthcoming Gatwick service due to commence in spring 2009.
The Airplay unit uses USB headsets and has a battery life of six hours (more than sufficient for the three-hour journey between the UK and Iceland). Iceland Express claims it is the only budget carrier to offer in-flight entertainment – Ryanair trialled its own hand-held movie players back in 2004 (at a charge of course), but this has since been dropped.
