Emirates axes proposed Durban route

27 Jun 2008 by BusinessTraveller

Europeans planning to head down to South Africa this winter will be disappointed to hear that Emirates has deferred its Durban route until further notice.

The new service was set to have started in December but a spokesman for the airline said that “although advance bookings were strong the high price of oil has forced Emirates to ensure the best utilisation of its aircraft fleet”.

With few direct flight options the planned route from Dubai to Durban (with connections from many European cities) would have been a useful means of reaching that city.

Emirates says that its existing services between Dubai, Johannesburg and Cape Town continue unchanged.
