York station gets free wifi

14 Jun 2008 by Mark Caswell

Up to ten million travellers per year can now benefit from free wifi internet access at York station, courtesy of National Express East Coast (NXEC).

York station is managed by NXEC, which already provides complimentary wifi throughout all of its trains. The free wifi zone covers the main concourse, including the waiting rooms and cafes, and platforms 1 to 5. Passengers can access the service by logging on to the network “nxecwifi_YORK”.

Says Steve Soards, station manager for NXEC at York: “A major advantage of choosing the train over alternatives such as driving or flying is the ability to stay connected to the internet throughout the journey. For business passengers our wifi creates a productive mobile office, with the ability to send and receive emails as well as to access the internet. Staying online throughout a journey can mean the difference between clinching a deal or losing out.”
