InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and the Bukhamseen Group Holding Company have signed an agreement to introduce the Staybridge Suites brand to Kuwait, with the development of two properties in Kuwait city.
Popular in the US where it accounts for over 100 properties within the IHG portfolio, the Staybridge Suites brand is an all-suite offering aimed at business travellers staying five nights or more in one place.
The 120-suite Staybridge Suites Salmiya will open in November 2009, with a choice of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom suites. All will feature separate living and working areas and fully equipped kitchens, plus state-of-the-art entertainment and communications systems, including free wifi. There will also be an exercise room, laundry and a 24/7 deli-style pantry.
Located in Kuwait city’s prime commercial and residential area, Salmiya is in close proximity to tourist attractions including the Marine Museum and Shaab Leisure Park, as well as a variety of shopping malls and restaurants.
“The outstanding performance of Staybridge Suites in the US has demonstrated the viability and growth of the extended-stay segment worldwide,” said John Bamsey, IHG’s chief operating officer, Middle East and Africa. “Building on this success, IHG is bringing its upscale extended stay brand to the Middle East, where we aim to lead the market by setting new standards.”
The country’s second Staybridge Suites property is expected to open in January 2010, as an extension to the existing Crowne Plaza Kuwait. Staybridge Suites Farnawiya will feature 150 suites and will be situated near Kuwait International Airport, a short walk from the business district as well as major shopping malls and dining outlets.
Staybridge Suites will make its UK debut in the coming weeks, with a Liverpool property due to open in July.
