Melco China Resorts (MCR), the largest ski operator in China, is investing in a high-end mountain project. It recently topped out two hotels at the Yabuli Sun Mountain Resort and also broke ground for its first luxurious mountain home project, available for sale by year-end.
International architects will be behind the designs.
According to the China Ski Association, the total number of ski visits in China has been increasing steadily, and will be at 10 million by 2010. MCR is transforming five existing ski areas in the northeastern provinces of Jeilongjiang and Jilin into unique, year-round mountain destinations. The company has plans to secure additional areas and develop further resorts in the coming years.
Yabuli Sun Mountain Resort is the core focus of MCR’s immediate efforts with three premium hotels, including an all-suite boutique mountaintop property. Located about two hours southeast of Harbin City, Yabuli is well known around China and will host the World Winter University Games in early 2009.
MCR also intends to upgrade its Sky Mountain Beidahu and Star Mountain Beijing resorts. Meanwhile, work continues on its Adventure Mountain Changchun Resort and members-only Lotus Mountain Club, which will be ready by 2009.
