South Bank gains eco-friendly meetings venue

27 May 2008 by Mark Caswell

An environmentally-conscious events venue has opened on London’s South Bank, complete with water bottled on site, bamboo computer monitors and a reception desk made of recycled washing up bottles.

15Hatfields is located within the premises of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), a few minutes walk from Southwark tube station, and offers a total of 15 meeting and events options, with capacities ranging from six to 550 delegates.

The venue is being run on a not-for-profit basis by CIEH, and features a wealth of eco-friendly initiatives, such as a ban on plastic cups or bottles, with water being filtered and bottled on site. Other features include organic and Fair Trade food and beverages, the use of recycled paper, pens, glasses and cushions throughout the venue, goat-hair carpets, and even a stylish curved reception area made of recycled washing up bottles.

The venue uses low-energy water fittings, while glass has been used where possible to maximise natural daylight, and all artificial lighting is either LED or flourescent.

Said Warren Campbell, 15 Hatfields client services manager:

“Companies are increasingly choosing venues that are environmentally and socially responsible. 15Hatfield provides the whole package – giving organisers the state-of-the-art facilities they expect in an innovative and sustainable venue.”

Day delegate rates start from £55 + VAT - for more information visit 15hatfields.com.
