Starwood introduces Westin to Dubai

22 May 2008 by Mark Caswell

Starwood has opened its first Westin property in Dubai on Jumeirah Beach, opposite the Palm Jumeirah development.

The five-star Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina opened for guests on May 10, after a launch party for 2,000 people.

One of the main draws of the 294-room hotel is its connection with the adjacent Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina, (another Starwood brand), giving guests from both hotels access to a 1,200-metre private shoreline on Jumeriah Beach, a 238-berth marina, five swimming pools, tennis courts, a spa and health centre, a water sports centre, a sailing academy (with racing yachts, Hobie Cats and Laser sailing boats), and facilities for deep-sea fishing and boat chartering.

The new Westin was designed by Italian firm Studitalia Décor. The hotel’s nine floors circle an open lobby, with a unique fibre-optic chandelier taking centre stage. All rooms have 42inch LCD TVs, the Westin trademark Heavenly Beds, wifi internet access at a charge, minibar, Westin toiletries, bathrobe and slippers, safe, hairdryer and a desk.

Eighty per cent of the hotel’s rooms have sea views, and there are four bars and four restaurants. Blue Orange, a 24-hour restaurant, features five open kitchens offering Arabic, Mediterranean and Asian fare, as well as a cold selection and desserts.

Conference and event facilities are extensive, with an 836 sqm ballroom, seven meeting rooms, an outdoor beachside amphitheatre, and a variety of lawn locations accommodating up to 5,000 guests.

It’s worth noting that both the Le Meridien and Westin properties are not members of the Starwood Preferred Guest scheme, so SPG points cannot be used at either property.
