42.4 million The number of bags mishandled or delayed at airports globally during 2007. The research, by SITA (the information technology provider which tracks passenger baggage worldwide for the air transport industry), shows that transfer baggage mishandling accounted for the single largest cause of luggage delay (49 per cent).

9.32 million The total number of passengers passing through Singapore’s Changi airport in the first quarter of 2008. During March, figures reached 3.26 million travellers, the highest monthly traffic registered so far this year. 

5 million The number of people visiting Cornwall in 2007. This summer, Newquay Cornwall airport will increase its services to a total of 185 weekly departing flights across 23 routes, an increase of over 50 per cent since the start of 2007.

154,330 The number of passengers travelling through Southampton airport during March – a 5.4 per cent increase on 2007 levels. The most popular destination was Edinburgh, with 3,000 people flying there for Easter from Southampton.

130,000 The amount in Swiss francs raised by the Swissotel Metropole Geneva’s tenth anniversary party on behalf of the SOS Children’s Villages charity. Among the prizes auctioned at the party was a vase signed by 83 celebrities.

236.03 The average cost in pounds, (per person per night) for a hotel room in Moscow, making it the world’s most expensive city to sleep in. The research, by meetings specialist HBI, shows New York in second place with rooms at £180.29 and London at ninth with rooms at £152.20.

76 The percentage of business travellers who feel pressurised to work normally even when travelling. The research, by digital convergence company Ibahn, reveals that those feeling most under pressure to perform on-the-go are male professionals aged 50 and over.

12 The average delay in minutes on Lufthansa flights from London Heathrow during 2007. According to the UK Civil Aviation Authority, the figure is just over seven minutes less than the average delay at the airport, making the carrier the most punctual airline operating from Heathrow.
