Star Alliance is to open an executive lounge in Terminal 1 at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.
The 800-sqm area will be split over two floors and is due to open in spring 2008. The lounge will be available to Star Alliance Gold Card customers, as well as first and business class passengers travelling on Alliance carriers which do not have their own dedicated lounge within the terminal.
The facility will be Star’s fourth dedicated lounge, the others being at Zurich, Nagoya and Los Angeles airports. The shell of the lounge will be built by Aeroports de Paris, with Star Alliance responsible for the interior design and day-to-day administration.
The announcement follows the opening of rival Oneworld’s first purpose-built lounge at Los Angeles’ Tom Bradley airport last month (see online news November 6, 2007).
In other news, Star Alliance says that its “Move Under One Roof” project is on track, with 80 per cent of all Star carriers now operating out of Terminal 1. Star says that by mid-2009 all of its Alliance carriers flying from CDG will do so from Terminal 1, including Air Canada, Austrian Airlines and Swiss, which currently operate from Terminals 2A, 2D and 2B respectively.
