Jet launches flights from Chennai to Toronto and New York

6 Dec 2007 by Mark Caswell

Indian carrier Jet Airways begins flying from Chennai to Toronto and New York today (December 6), via its Brussels hub.

Jet will serve Brussels from the city of Chennai in south-east India (formerly Madras), allowing onward travel to Toronto and New York’s JFK and Newark airports from the Belgian hub.

Daily flight 9W226 will depart Chennai International airport at 0115, arriving in Brussels at 0715 – the same flight number then leaves Brussels at 0915, arriving into Toronto’s Pearson International airport at 1255. The return flight 9W225 from Brussels will leave at 1130, arriving back in Chennai at 0140 the next day.

The carrier is offering discounted inaugural fares for the new route (visit jetairways.com for more information). International flights from Chennai – an important hub for the Indian automobile, IT and healthcare industries – have increased recently, with Qatar Airways launching daily flights to the city from Doha earlier this year.

In other news, Jet has opened a lounge for its first and business class passengers at Brussels. The 522-sqm facility is split into two rooms, with interiors reflecting “a subtle hint of modern India”, and can accommodate up to 18 first class and 59 business class guests.

Both lounges have wired and wireless internet access, and there is a business centre with four computers, a meeting room and printer/fax facilities. Business class passengers have a buffet food and beverage choice, while first class guests can opt for table service and use of the shower facilities.
