Easyjet launches free text reminders for Gatwick flights

12 Sep 2007 by Mark Caswell

EasyjetPassengers flying from Gatwick with Easyjet can now get free text messages reminding them of flight times, departure terminal, booking references and check-in deadlines. The low-cost carrier is introducing the service in partnership with BAA.

Passengers booking tickets on relevant Easyjet flights will now receive an email with an opt-in option for the service, which will then send them a series of texts on the day of departure. These include an SMS four hours before departure confirming the flight time, the departure terminal and booking reference, followed by a notification shortly before check-in closes, and another shortly before the boarding gate shuts.

In addition to these reminders passengers will also receive up to two "exclusive offers from relevant airport retailers" – presumably this is what enables the service to remain free of charge.

At present the EasyjetText service is available on 14 routes leaving Gatwick (Amsterdam, Barcelona, Belfast, Budapest, Cologne Bon, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Madrid, Malaga, Marrakech, Milan Linate, Milan Malpensa, Rome and Nice), as well as flights departing Glasgow and Edinburgh to Gatwick. BAA envisages that the service will be extended to more Easyjet flights from its airports over the coming months.
