11 Sep 2007 by Mark Caswell

Singapore Airlines A380Business travellers eager to experience the new Singapore Airlines A380 should take note of these two codes: SQ220 and SQ221. The carrier has announced that these flight codes on the Singapore-Sydney route will be the first to feature the superjumbo.

The first scheduled A380 flight will take place on Sunday October 28 (SIA is carrying out two special charity flights with the aircraft on October 25 and 26). Flight SQ221 will depart Singapore at 2030 on October 28, arriving in Sydney at 0700 the next morning. It will then return as SQ220, leaving Sydney at 0850 and touching down in Singapore at 1345.

The aircraft will be configured with 471 seats: 12 first class suites on the main deck, 60 business class seats on the upper deck, and 399 economy seats split between the two decks. It will replace one of the three Boeing 747-400 aircraft currently plying the Singapore-Sydney route.

The carrier has also confirmed that the economy and business class seating on the A380 will be modelled on the products launched last year on the airline's 777-300ER aircraft (see online news October 19, 2006 for more details), while the new suites, referred to by SIA as "a class beyond First", will be unveiled when the A380 is delivered in October.
