Travellers living within easy reach of Belgium's capital can now book some of the best transatlantic premium seating out of mainland Europe. Last Sunday saw Jet Airways inaugurate a daily Brussels to New York Newark service.
The service is a continuation of the private Indian airline's Mumbai flight which stops in Brussels en route to the US, andis operated by brand new 312-seater B777-300s fitted with spacious four across seating in first and business class.
First class passengers are accommodated in individual cabins while those in business class have seating disposed in the fully flat herringbone layout. (See online news April 19, for full details of Jet Airways' first and business classes.)
Since it began flying outside India two years ago Jet Airways has acquired an international reputation for top service. Chairman Noresh Goyal has told Business Traveller in the past that he intends his carrier to be the Indian equivalent of Singapore Airlines.
Jet Airways flight 9W228 departs from Brussels at 0940 to arrive in Newark at 1155. Return service 9W227 leaves at 2025 to reach Brussels the next morning at 0940.
The good news is that Jet is offering keen fares in both first and business class.Return fares in first class cost Euros 5,860 (£3,940) with business class rates typically ranging between Euros 2,360 (£1,587) to Euros 2,710 (£1,822). Both prices were checked using jetairways.com.
Rival carriers comprise US airlines such as American operating into JFK with a B767-300, Continental heading for Newark with a B777 and Delta into JFK with a B767. None of these carriers offer first class. Continental and Delta feature older versions of business class. With American there's a chance you'll experience its new lie-flat style seating on the B767.
When Business Traveller checked the cost of a return online business class fare next week (out August 13 and back August 16) we were quoted Euros 3,068 (£2,063) with American, Euros 2,702 (£1,817) with Delta and Euros 2,680 (£1,802) with Continental.
