Easyjet is making its first foray into Belgium. From June 29, the budget airline will launch a once daily service between Geneva and Brussels. From September, flight frequency will be stepped up to a twice daily service. Return tickets cost upwards of Sfr98 (£40).
Weekday timings call for a 1910 departure from Geneva reaching Brussels at 2030. The return service from the Belgian capital leaves at 2055 and lands in Geneva at 2215.
But when the double-daily service starts around mid-September (traditionally the time when business travel picks up after the summer holidays) the timings will allow day trips in either direction or a more productive working day for those staying away longer.
The additional service will depart Geneva at 0625 arriving in Brussels at 0745. It will head back at 0810 to reach Geneva at 0930.
Rival Ryanair serves Brussels by using the airport at Charleroi (59 km outside the capital) whereas Easyjet will be using the main airport (13 km from the centre).
Easyjet is keeping tight-lipped as to whether this new service heralds an expansion into the Belgium market which would lead to Easyjet serving Brussels from its other destinations in the UK and mainland Europe. All a spokesperson was prepared to add was, "When we launch a route into a major city we tend to join the dots."
