Hilton opens latest "lifestyle" hotel

5 Oct 2006 by business traveller

Open this week: the Hilton London Tower Bridge. Located a few minute's walk from London Bridge station within the ever-growing More London complex (including health clubs, cafes, law firms and the headquarters of the Greater London Authority), the latest of Hilton's "lifestyle" hotels follows the opening of the Hilton Canary Wharf this summer (see online news July 5), and comes at a busy time for the chain just days before the group's latest Manchester hotel opens.

Like the Canary Wharf property, the new Hilton is a sleek, modern building with an interior of dark browns and reds. All rooms have flat screen TVs and wired internet access, with wifi available in public areas, and the 55 executive rooms enjoy access to an executive lounge with views across to the City, though none of the rooms have river views. There are nine meeting rooms and a LivingWell Health Club, as well as the Larder restaurant and Ruba bar.

Though a modern take on the Hilton brand, there is no doubt that the hotel is staking its claim to the growing corporate market in the area with the company headquarters of several large firms nearby.

Says Howard Friedman, president for Hilton UK and Ireland:"We see the market being mainly corporate driven during the week, with several businesses such as Ernst & Young located in the area, and excellent rail and underground links. But there will also be a large demand for leisure stays, with attractions like Borough Market [and the South Bank] nearby."

The new "lifestyle" Hiltons, which Friedman describes as being "modern, hip and fresh", see the group moving away from its traditional properties such as the London Hilton Park Lane, and more will follow with the Hilton London Wembley also due to open next year.
