United to fly B787 to Tel Aviv and Auckland

9 Oct 2015 by GrahamSmith

United Airlines will launch B787 services from San Francisco to Tel Aviv and Auckland next year.

Both routes are subject to government approval.

The Tel Aviv service will commence on March 30 and the Auckland service on July 1. They join a previously announced Dreamliner service between SFO and Xian, which is due to start on May 8 (see news, September 22).

The Tel Aviv route will depart SFO as UA954 at 2000 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, landing at 2010 the next day. Return leg UA955 will depart Tel Aviv at 0055 on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays and land in San Francisco at 0600 the same day.

United currently operates a twice-daily B777 service to Tel Aviv from New York Newark.

Dave Hilfman, United's senior vice president of worldwide sales, said: "Providing corporate customers from throughout the Bay Area and Silicon Valley nonstop service to the high-tech market in Israel has been high on our priority list at United."

The Auckland route will be operated — in partnership by fellow Star Alliance carrier Air New Zealand — by a B787-8 from July 1 until October 28 next year, when it will switch to a daily B787-9 service.

Outbound flight UA917 will depart San Francisco at 2245 and arrive in Auckland at 0655 two days later. Return leg UA916 will leave Auckland at 1320 and land at SFO at 0640 the same day.

United currently has 22 Dreamliners in its fleet and expects to take delivery of three more by the end of this year.
