15 May 2015 by GrahamSmith

United Airlines has previewed its $573 million (£364 million) redevelopment programme at Los Angeles International airport.

The carrier is refreshing "nearly all of its customer-facing space" at the airport with a new design. The project is due to complete in December 2017.

Among the improvements to debut between now and then will be a larger ticketing lobby with self-service tools including self-tagging baggage kiosks, improved security screening, and "abundant" charging areas for electronic devices.

United Club members will have access to a new expanded Terminal 7 lounge with views of the airfield from an outdoor terrace.

United operates out of Terminals 7 and 8 and the Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX.

Sandra Pineau-Boddison, United's senior vice president for customers, said: "From a state-of-the-art ticketing lobby to a sleek and spacious United Club lounge, we are enhancing the airport experience at LAX and giving our customers more of what they want when travelling – greater choice and control, consistency and comfort."

It was recently announced that Priority Pass members no longer have access to United Club lounges (see news, April 16).

Last summer, United opened a new United Club lounge in San Francisco International airport (see news, June 2014).
