Have to agree with ‘Inquisitive’ that the Qatar Lounge in T4 LHR must also take some beating.
Spacious, great Deli,Separate Restaurant, Excellent wine list, Showers etc. AND directly opposite the departure gate.
My main dislike is the Thai Lounge at BKK for apposite reasons. Its cramped, the food is mediocre and the lounge is poorly located.
Have used the Qatar First Class ‘Al Safwan’ lounge in Doha on two occasions. Vast place, looks wonderful but like a morgue, far more staff than passengers.

All this is good advice.
I routinely carry antiseptic hard surface wipes onto the aircraft for a discrete clean of the tray table, seat controls, armrests and IFE control.
Then in the hotel room a good wipe of the door handles, TV remote and telephones (particularly the one in the bathroom!).

Nothing changes does it! Several years ago when transiting internally on to a THAI domestic flight, arriving at the gate Mrs and I were both relieved of all the liquid and cream contents of our rather nice – unused – Qatar Airways ‘F&J’ amenity bags!
We had been pre-warned about the booze issue but getting hysterical over a few tubes of Moulton Brown and small bottles of various perfumes etc is a bit OTT! Their reasoning was that the total quantity exceeded 100ml!
We are doing the same trip in March 2018. Looks as though we may have a similar problem.

Hi Sleak 76
Thanks for this. It’s of no real value in that case as the second DOH-BKK (QR836) sector is quite short at a little over 5 hours and a ‘try to sleep’ flight for us.
We usually have a good meal in the Doha lounge en-route and don’t usually eat much again until we get to the hotel in Bangkok by which it’s lunch time!
The fact that the food manifest apparently does not work is not helpful!.
Some years ago we flew EVA several times on this route. They had a very good pre-order system which worked well. I was hoping for something similar.

Thanks for this – very comprehensive indeed!
It does appear that the choice is still only from the ‘On-Board’ menu, no ‘specials’ but at least there will be an opportunity to peruse the options before the flight and (almost) guarantee availability.
I must add that in many years of flying in J&F with Qatar I have never failed to get my first choice off the menu – quality is sometimes another matter sadly.
I await November with anticipation!

Anybody know when this is due to start and how it will work? There is nothing on the web site yet.
I look forward to some ‘feedback’ from users before we fly LHR-DOH-BKK and return in November/December.
Hopefully there will be some ‘choice’ special order additions to the basic menu!
EvaAir were offering a system of pre-order for ‘J’ passengers when we flew with them for some years a while ago – worked well.

On my first visit to India, the response by the hotel driver to ‘Which side of the road do you drive on’ was ‘EITHER’.
On my second visit the response to the same question was ‘BOTH’
I await with some trepidation my upcoming third visit.

Would support the suggestion to use the QR A380 via Doha. Departs 0835 from BKK – connects with either 787 or A350-900 to LHR.
Have used this route on a number of occasions in J. It’s a daylight flight all the way, with time in Doha to stretch and have a really good meal in the Business Lounge.
The only slight drawback is that Qatar use the Thai Business Lounge in BKK which is not the best.

You must try ‘Los Caracoles’ just off the Plaza Mayor’ Featured on a Floyd program some years ago. Looks nothing from outside, just some chickens grilling on a rack but go in and you go through the kitchen – literally! Great food, great wine and a fantastic experience.
It gets very busy so booking essential – ask for a table near the kitchen to watch the action.

Thanks all for the support. You will be pleased to know that in the post this morning was a letter of apology and a cheque which in effect was the amount of the weekend supplement for both tickets so matter fully resolved. Thank you Virgin Trains!
On reflection, if I was forced to travel back on a Saturday again I would Buy Standard Class for that sector, find a vacant seat in First and pay the supplement (if asked for!).
Better still avoid the morning Liverpool train when Liverpool are playing at home.
