MartynSinclairParticipantThat’s a lot of categories…
I do like reading these lists of “winners” if only to see what’s currently around and in flavour..

TimFitzgeraldTCParticipantSurely the correct list should read:
Europe’s Leading Airline Easyjet
Europe’s Leading Airline – Business Class Swiss International Air Lines
Europe’s Leading Airline – Economy Class – Norwegian
Europe’s Leading Airline – First Class – Lufthansa
Europe’s Leading Airline to Africa – Air France/KLM
Europe’s Leading Airline to Asia – Finnair or Air France / KLM
Europe’s Leading Airline to North America – British Airways
Europe’s Leading Airline to South America – TAP Portugal / Iberia
Europe’s Leading Airport Zurich Airport, Switzerland
Europe’s Leading Airport Hotel Hilton London Heathrow Airport, England
Europe’s Leading Airport Lounge Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse @ London HeathrowAirport & Best Airport Hotel are more subjective – not sure if I’d agree with these. But on the airline front I think my winners are more sensible!

CathayLoyalist2ParticipantThese awards have become ten a penny and rather like the Queens Honours List have become pretty meaningless. As an example are we seriously to believe that BA is superior than SQ and CX to Asia

CathayLoyalist2ParticipantCharles-P, I should have clarified that Honours should be for all the many unsung heroes/the ordinary Joes who give up copious amounts of time and energy for great causes so ‘power to your cousin’. They should remove the celebrity award that politicians and the like seem infatuated with and have craved over the years. Cameron’s resignation list as have other resigning/retiring PM’s list caused angst. On the World Travel Awards they are in my opinion devalued where some winners are simply extraordinary. Pretty much every travel publisher globally has an awards ceremony/survey and one I attended in Bangkok had 89 winners, no losers there!. By the time the last 30 recipients walked on to the stage the banqueting staff outnumbered guests. –

conshaldowParticipantI agree, SQ and CX are both far superior to BA in First. However the exact award is for European Airline, so neither SQ or CX would come under this category.
Honourable mention to Turkish Airlines for Leading Airline to Africa and also to Asia. Despite the problems they have had over the last year, a great airline and a great product (just my opinion).

Exactly. I thought the whole purpose of these awards was so that everyone won something and harmony was maintained.
Such as “Best Airline from LHR to JFK between 10.30 and 10.40 – British Airways.”
Come to think of it, they would probably be late.

canuckladParticipantNo wonder everyone wins something
Project I’ve been involved with has been nominated as finalist in its specialist category.
To attend the Gala dinner where the winners will be announced, all my company has to do is fork out £500 per table.
I suspect you don’t get a refund if you don’t go home without at least a bronze,or even more patronizing,a special mention of commendation.

MrMichaelParticipant@canucklad, your dead right there. I shun such things usually, especially as it would be public money if I did attend these excuses for a booze up. However last year I was persuaded to attend one by the trade association that was running it. Hey presto, I won, in a category that did not even exist until 2 minutes before I was declared winner! I was indeed the very best between 10.30 @ 10.40 on a Tuesday. I take all these award ceremony’s with a pinch of salt, especially I think Skytrax whereby they take the money from the airlines to assess them.
My particular award ceremony was presented by Ade Adepitan, the wheelchair bound athlete and tv presenter. You may remember him from the BBC link with the dancing wheelchairs. Given the award I received was for supporting Disabled people in my sector it did actually inspire me having chatted with him about it later.
