Why the VC-10 was superior (in its day)

    From recent postings I know that many of you appreciate VC-10 nostalgia.

    This appears to be a BOAC ad which targets the US market.

    It talks about the advantages offered by the VC-10 compared to rival long-haul aircraft of that era.

    Note the lack of space in the first class cabin.

    While First may be more like a good Premium Economy today, Economy does seem a step up from what is now offered.

    The cleaner is also very much from a different era in age, ethnicity and working clothes!!

    Yes, TominScotland, economy class must have had at least 34 or maybe 35 ins of pitch back then.

    Certainly was a different age !

    The reason why the VC-10 could take off more quickly and land more slowly was because its wings were unencumbered by engines.

    At that time the only long-range jets were four-engined B707s and Dc-8s.

    Just look at the amount of leg room in the economy cabin, yes far superior than the cabins we have today!
