ffidracParticipantHow do you disable the appallingly intrusive advertising which now forms the background of this site? I can just about cope with a static advert but a video which plays every time you move from one topic to the next is one step too far. The site is now unusable and the BT brand is tarnished as a consequence. Did whoever commissioned this actually try it as a user??

DoorsToManualParticipantIt’s EXTRAORDINARY that this well heeled magazine would do something soooo intrusive on the launch page for the site. DREADFUL!

wowzimmerParticipantAs a web publisher I know that there is a place for online advertising. It can certainly be better targeted, more engaging and cost effective than traditional advertising forms.
But the thing is, some publishers just don’t appreciate how ads can have a detrimental effect. In the quest to make money in the short term you affect your page load speeds, site usability and user experience. We’ve already seen it on BT with the inline highlighted text ads. This may well be an experiment and hopefully a review of the metrics will lead to a review by the sites editor.

LuganoPirateParticipantI’m using a Samsung Tab, iPad and my PC and have not seen these ads appearing. I thought BT had fixed the problem?

skywardsParticipantIt’s absolutely terrible on my Samsung Alpha phone. All I can see is a massive banner with Europe from £25 as I’m writing this out now. I’m having to scroll up and down to see what I’ve wrote. Two weeks ago I couldn’t even click on any link…The Hilton add wouldn’t let me…it’s an absolute nightmare.

LuganoPirateParticipantHah, just seen my first ad for a Swedish online casino. It disappeared when I clicked on this topic though.

ffidracParticipantWell the hiatus didn’t last long.
Now its moved on to a BMW ad – just as annoying given that it plays down the sides of the pages and pops up when changing pages.
Appreciate that there is a need to generate advertising revenue – but all it does for me is ensure that I would not buy a motorcycle or a car as a consequence.
My advice is stick with static ads – I’ll click on them if I’m interested30 Sep 2015
