    Australia –
Lots of publicity here regarding the V-Australia starting flights to JNB, an awkward but interesting route to take.
Little choice at the moment, but may well then open up easier options for routes to Sydney from LHR via ZA.
With their flights also to LAX starting, as well as Phuket in Thailand (with 773 aircraft!), & established HKG, they are one of the few Airlines that will circle the globe, on their own aircraft!

They link in with VirginBlue domestically, with some choice routes to NZ, & the Pacific region, quite an achievement in a few yrs to link up.

Slight correction (not that I am being pedantic) but the routing is MEL-JNB. A first for MEL in having a same plane service to South Africa.
Nevertheless, this will offer NZ/east coast Aust pax another option into South Africa. Perth (which has the largest population of South Africans overseas) has been omitted, so it could be they are missing out on a goldmine here. SAA are making plenty of money on the PER route, especially in the premium cabins.

    Course yr right, thanks.
Being in Sydney at the mo, wrong orientation!

They are also marketing connections via Virgin Blue for the main services though to JNB.
Not a cheap flight at Business for Aus $75999, or $2,999 premium.

Interesting link up, & rapid growth for Virgin here in Aus though eh, making them pretty global.

About time someone challenegd the duopoly on the SA-OZ route. However, it remains to be seen how Virgin Oz will perform; in other words, is it a matter of time before Virgin Oz goes the way of Virgin Nigeria and Virgin Atlantic (i.e. downhill)?
