I was shocked to be walking through the Club World cabin during the daytime on a recent flight to see “Asian Babes” being obviously viewed (not just surreptitiously glanced at) by a chap seated in an aisle seat. Seemed to be the menu page for a DVD or possibly an offline homepage.

It was quite obvious, to the extent I could read the heading on the web page (and see quite a bit else as well) as I passed by the seat, and he seemed to be clicking on links etc.

I can’t imagine what compels people to look at such things in a public place.

Maybe he thought his privacy screen would be effective. It wasn’t.

Anyone else seen this sort of behaviour? Really inappropriateparticularly for the children on board.

Thankfully no localised turbulence in the vicinity of his seat.

Awful, almost as bad as people reading The Sun on the Tube.

I have not seen anyone browsing dubious sites but I have seen dubious DVD,s and many many times in the past men reading playboy. I remember being mortified more than once when regular movies I was watching like Mullholland Drive suddenly have some exposure in them (invariably as Flight Attendant walked past).

I do not think viewing Porn is appropriate but Iberia have shown movies on their IFE which would not get a chilredn friendly rating, as in the Spanish culture they have andifferent view. Equally I have seen very religious people demand seats without a movie view as they find movies sinful.

So I think porn is innapropriate but one has to respect differin. Views in different parts of the world. Worst of all is asking the viewer to afjust their screen as you cannot see properly.

Or perhaps Airline provided ‘inflight entertainment’ has gotten so bad that they have to bring their own :-p

Seriously: I haven’t had the experience of ‘catching’ anyone weatching ‘questionable’ videos, etc on a plane at all, but don’t think its exactly appropriate on public transport. On the flip side, I guess I won’t be ‘offended’ by this unless, as VK put it, “locallised turbulence in the vicinity of his seat” started to occur…

    I have seen it before,

i came close once, was listening to some seriously sweary tracks on a night flight, didnt realise my headphones had eased out of the jack, I could still hear the music, I did wonder why it sounded a bit muffled until the crew came and asked me to turn off the music as the entire top deck cabin could hear it blasting from my laptop!

    I felt very very sheepish

I would find this extremely unacceptable, and even more so if children were on the flight. I would imagine the cabin crew would not like it either!

Each to her/his own in private, but in a public place – absolutely not on, IMHO!

Besides any visual worry with kids in the cabin…………………….

I would have no hestition in speaking to the senior cabin crew member about porn being watched in the cabin.

When I reported in this forum about an MD level investment banker looking at escort sites in the biz lounge in Warsaw I got savaged for not tackling him ( I remember the post being titled “a new low”). Glad you are being treated better VK

    I recently transited VIE.

They were proudly displaying a video article in the gate area about the Austrian village of F*cking, with the name in full display and (what they thought) was a humourous article about it.

I did complain at the desk and was asked ‘Do you Britishers have no sense of humour.’

My reply was ‘what is humorous about showing that word when the lounge has many school children waiting for the flight?

I thought it was in very poor taste. I bet OS would not allow the use of the word on their inflight entertainment system, I know BA would not.

Where is the line? Page 3 models or naked women in Vogue? Are they acceptable when children could be present? Is it about image or intent?

Rich, without getting on my moral high horse………….as if, I think there is a slight difference between a page 3 model, a vogue model & porn!

Totally agree. Where my question comes from is that different socities have different values and i believe one shiuld respect multiple cultures. I know of some who will not sit in a seat that can see the movie screen as they believe it is sinful. That is extreme in my view. I know some parents who think pictures of nakes women are not appropriate for children and I have been on Iberia flights where the IFE had very adult material With full female Nudity. I am not an apologist for porn, i am trying to see where posters think the line ahould be drawn. I find porn inappropriate on a plane, I also find couples climbing all over each other inappropriate on a plane. But everyone has their own views and I was trying to see what the posters’ benchmark would be.

    It’s an interesting one.

I sometimes watch French independent films on my laptop while travelling, and on two occasions the action has turned VERY explicit, almost without warning. It’s all over in a short while (they are French, after all!) but it’s quite difficult to FF through the relevant bit, and that of course only looks like you were re-winding to have another look at the action to the casual passer by!

I don’t think “artistic” scenes bother me, even with children in the cabin (the younger ones really won’t understand what they’re seeing, and getting all upset about nudity only furthers the taboo; in my view it’s really that we’re all naked underneath, and the less mystique we assign to sex and nudity, the better adjusted society will be).

It’s the explicit porn which is entirely inappropriate in such a context.
