The plane was about 30 minutes late arriving in Darwin due to the effects of a cyclone in Queensland which was effecting many flights. We were informed of this fact when dropping our luggage off. We used the Web check in. It proceeded very smoothly and so we missed the long queue of people using the check in counter.
The plane left 40 minutes late as there is only a short turn around time in Darwin and this was probably due to the loading of a passenger in a wheel chair.
It was a night flight so after a small snack it was lights out. Approaching Brisbane we were informed by the Captain about the connecting flights as this flight would now miss some connecting flights. On arrival Virgin staff were there to direct those in transit. It appeared that if the next flight had spare seats the flight was not delayed for us and so it left on time while if the flight was full it was held back for the passengers. Normally there is 30 minutes between the arrival of the Darwin flight and the departure time of the other flight. It leaves from the gate alongside the one we arrived at.
We went to their transfer counter and were given the boarding passes for the next segment. The delay enabled us to have a leisurely breakfast and listen to all the changes in flights due to several airports being closed by the cyclone.
The plane was a B737-800.
